I keep my hair moisturized by spritzing water on it when it feels dry. I do think I'll stick with it and maybe also try Taliah Maajid's lock it up gel which I've also heard doesn't leave build up, flaking, or causes the hair to be hard.Ģ. I have a tub of Queen Helene's alcohol free styling gel thats water based, which is what my stylist uses as it doesn't leave buildup or cause the hair to be hard and crunchy. Literally got my first retwist yesterday.ġ. If there is weakening though you or your loctitian can sew the loc together to keep it looking okay. Don't leave it too long or you will have weakening at the root, and the loc may drop off. I had my locs tightened every 3-6 months, because I couldn't really afford to go more often. Due to my experience I'd say to stay away from Head and Shoulders, that's what I was using in particular when I noticed the buildup. ![]() After my initial problems, I washed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. As far as shampoo I was using a Lush shampoo bar, which was great, and later on I was using the ORS Olive Oil poo and conditioner. My scalp was well nourished and I didn't have breakage. When I educated myself I alternated between coconut oil, and grease, tbh. Eventually I got tired and had my hair cut several inches up and coloured, and my hair was perfect after that. The ends of some locs were also breaking off. I started trying ACV and whatever detoxifying/buildup removal shapoos I could find. After that, I noticed buildup forming along the locs. I remember going a long time witout washing when I first got locs, thinking that' was wat you were supposed to do. In fact, my hair was very unhealthy because of it. When I first got them, I didn't know what to do. Lots of info on loose natural but not much on locs (at the time). So if you have locs, can yall help me out?: I barely know what products my locs specifically need and what I should avoid (I know beeswax should be avoided, but that's about it.) I come across a lot of great pictures of loc'd people, but as far as good healthcare information. I end up having a hard time finding good products for my locs. Even when I go to natural hair blogs, there's only a handful of posts about locs. I noticed that there's really not too much information about locs on the internet. ![]()
